Ingredients

Other ingredients :

  • 1 big Bread Fruit / Deevi Halasu / Bera Halasu
  • 1/2 tbsp Salt
  • 1/4 cup water

Masala Paste :

  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • 2 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 8-9 cloves Garlic
  • 2 tbsp Coriander Seeds
  • 8-9 Dry Red Chilly
  • 1 cup Fresh Coconut grated
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp Tamarind
  • 1/4 cup Water

For Tempering :

  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 4-5 strings Curry Leaves
  • 1/2 tsp Asafoetida/Hing
  • 5-6 cloves Garlic crushed

Instructions

  • Bread Fruit.
  • Peel off the skin of bread fruit.
  • Vertically cut into 4 pieces.
  • Remove the top spongy part.
  • Chop it and keep it in water.
  • In a kadai add 1 tbsp oil, garlic, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, dry red chilly.
  • Saute it for 2 mins on medium flame, let it cool down.
  • Add fried spices, tamarind, turmeric powder, grated coconut, 1/4 cup water to a mixing jar.
  • Grind it to a fine paste.
  • In a kadai add oil, mustard seeds, asafoetida, curry leaves, crushed garlic, saute for a min.
  • Add chopped bread fruit, stir.
  • Add salt, mix.
  • Close the lid and cook for 2-3 mins on medium flame.
  • Add masala paste, mix well.
  • Now add 1/4 cup water, stir.
  • Close the lid and cook for 3-4 mins on medium flame.
  • ಬೇರ ಹಲಸು ಮಸಾಲ / Bread Fruit Masala / Deevi Halasu Masala is ready to have.
