Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup Alasande kaalu / Lobia / Black Eyed Peas
  • 1 bowl Basale / Malabar spinach
  • 2 medium Tomato chopped
  • 1/2 tbsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 2 cup Water
  • 4 tbsp Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 2 tbsp Coriander Seeds
  • 10-12 Dry Red Chilly
  • 6-7 cloves Garlic
  • 2 medium Onion slices
  • 1/2 Coconut grated

Instructions

  • Soak Black eyed peas overnight.
  • In a pressure cooker add soaked black eyed peas, malabar spinach stem, tomato, malabar spinach leaves.
  • Add salt, turmeric powder, water.
  • Close the lid and cook for 3 - 4 whistles.

Coconut Masala Paste :

  • In a pan add 2 tbsp oil, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, garlic, onion, red chilly.
  • Saute it for 2 to 3 mins on medium flame.
  • In a mixing jar add sauted spices, grated coconut, water,
  • Grind it to fine paste, coconut masala paste is ready.

Preparing Curry :

  • In a kadai add cooked malabar spinach and black eyed peas, coconut masala paste.
  • Mix.
  • Add water according to curry consistency.
  • Saute.
  • Cook well.
  • Basale Alasande Saaru is ready to have.
